Third Street Elementary School, thanks to the generosity of our parents, boasts a state-of-the-art, fully equipped Macintosh Lab that includes 34 new iMac computers, laser printers, mobiles carts (with MacBook & Chromebook laptops and iPads) for classroom use, and document cameras and display projectors for all classrooms.
Students in kindergarten receive 30 minutes of technology instruction each week, and students in Grades 1 to 5 receive 45 minutes of instruction weekly. Classroom instruction is multi-disciplinary and comprehensive as our technology department works to align all lessons to California standards. Additional professional development workshops are given quarterly for teachers to develop skills and experience, and for parents.
The Technology Center, technology teacher, and classroom technology equipment are made possible by parents’ donations to Friends of Third. All children participate in the Tech Lab instruction regardless of a family’s ability to donate.
Music and Arts Education
LAUSD provides a selection of arts programs at the school each year, including an orchestra program for 4th and 5th grade students, as well as theatre arts for Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. Past programs have also included dance and visual arts.
The following arts programs are made possible by Friends of Third. All children participate in these programs regardless of a family’s ability to donate:
- Kindergarten Art: Visual arts for fostering the creativity of our youngest students (funded via Kindergarten Support Fund)
- Music: A 12-week music program for all grade levels (over and above the 4th/5th-grade orchestra program provided by LAUSD)
- Theatre Arts: Creative expression through the body, voice and imagination for 3rd through 5th Grades. Also includes a 5th Grade mini-Shakespeare performance and a 4th Grade spring musical.
